YEAR IN REVIEW

We are all, at one time or another, impacted by change. There are times in our lives when a moment can change everything. For me, it was when I had the privilege of accepting the role of President and CEO of The Christ Hospital Health Network.

It is an honor to be joining an organization that continues to be the #1 hospital in the region for the fourth consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report; as well as the #1 hospital in the region for consumer loyalty according to NRC Health. We are also among the top eight percent of hospitals to be Magnet designated for nursing excellence.

These awards are a direct result of the hard work and dedication of our more than 6,000 employees, 1,200 physicians and 600 volunteers.

These individuals work with innovation, creativity and technical expertise, ensuring we will continue to serve our community for years to come.

This annual report highlights these accomplishments and more, and shows how we continue to transform the way healthcare is delivered.

I hope you enjoy the report. Thank you.

The Christ Hospital Timeline

  • 1889
  • 1889

Christ's Hospital is dedicated at 46 York Street in a home donated by James Gamble. Unlike traditional hospital wards of the time, Christ's Hospital's wards have the appearance of a well-kept private dwelling.

  • 1930

The North Wing is completed, including the hospital's iconic cupola, which has become one of the most enduring and distinctive landmarks on the Cincinnati skyline.

  • 1951

The Christ Hospital installs the first mechanical kidney in Cincinnati.

  • 1962

The Christ Hospital opens an intensive care unit, the first of its kind in the area.

  • 1969

The department of cardiac surgery is formed. A total of 13 open heart procedures are performed in the first year, including the first open heart surgery in the region.

  • 2008

The Christ Hospital navigates significant change as it transitions to an independent hospital, reestablishing The Christ Hospital Medical Associates, the hospital's primary care physician group.

  • 2010

An initiative begins to bring care to people in their own neighborhoods. Outpatient Centers open in Anderson and Red Bank, followed by Green Township, Ft. Wright and Montgomery.

  • 2012
    The Christ Hospital Health Network

The Christ Hospital implements a new brand identity, becoming The Christ Hospital Health Network, to better extend our reach in the community and breadth of services outside the hospital setting. The Christ Hospital Medical Associates is also renamed as The Christ Hospital Physicians.

  • 2015

The first patient is seen in the Joint & Spine Center, a national healthcare destination, and first of its kind in the region, keeping the continuum of care under one roof.

  • 2018

The Christ Hospital Medical Center – Liberty Township opens, offering a state-of-the-art family birthing center, emergency room and many other comprehensive services.

  • 2018

The exceptional patient care that we deliver at The Christ Hospital has been validated by the many awards we've received this year. As the Chief Nursing Officer, one of the things I'm most proud of is our Magnet designation. In a nutshell, Magnet symbolizes that front-line nurses are involved in all aspects of patient care. Only about eight percent of hospitals in America receive this designation, so for us, this designation gives us the external validation that the quality we provide our patients is truly exceptional.
