The Christ Hospital Health Network supports diversity and inclusion every day. In 2022, we participated in our second annual virtual PRIDE parade. All employees were invited to show support by creating a ‘float’ to be entered in our virtual PRIDE parade. A panel of judges selected three winners: Parade Spirit Award, Best Float Award and Best Enthusiasm Award. We were also a proud sponsor the Pride Party 2022 at Court Street Plaza. Members and allies of the LGBTQ+ community gathered for a fun street cocktail party in June. Christian Gausvik, MD, primary care provider with The Christ Hospital Health Network, took part in the Pride Party. He says support from the healthcare system and from his office staff has been important to the success of the practice. “Representation, trust and openness are vital to a successful physician-patient relationship and perhaps that is most true in primary care,” said Dr. Gausvik. “Over 50% of the LGBTQ+ community has faced discrimination in healthcare causing many to defer important visits, and there are significant health outcome disparities for the LGBTQ+ community. This leads to ongoing challenges for patients with trust and access. That is why I have been so passionate about building a practice at Hyde Park Family Medicine with The Christ Hospital Health Network that focuses on serving the LGBTQ+ community in an open and affirming way.
